I was born in Rwanda. I survived the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. And in 2002, Canada gave my family a chance to start again. I don’t take that lightly. Not for one second. This country gave us safety. Opportunity. A future. And that is something I carry with me every day as a father, as business owner, as a builder, and now as someone running to serve this community.
I came to Mapleton in 2019 to build homes. But what happened was bigger than construction. I fell in love with the place. The people. The small-town feel. The way families know each other. The way community still means something here. In 2021, my family and I put down roots here, and I founded Sabato Homes with a simple belief: You don’t just build houses. You help build communities.
Now I’m running for Council because Mapleton is growing whether we like it or not. The land is already zoned. The homes are coming. The families are coming. So the question is simple: Do we lead that growth with common sense, planning, and care? Or do we wait until the roads, services, schools, parks, and infrastructure are overwhelmed? As a builder, I understand what growth really demands. I see what new homes require before most people ever notice the pressure. I’m running because I want Mapleton to grow the right way. With safer roads. Better planning. More spaces for families and youth. And a strong commitment to protecting the small-town character that makes this place special. Canada gave my family a future. Mapleton gave my family a home. Now I would love the opportunity to give back.
Every family in Mapleton deserves safe roads, no matter where they live. As our communities grow, we need to plan ahead with traffic calming,parking, safer school zones, and smart infrastructure improvements across Drayton, Alma, and Moorefield. More families mean more vehicles, more pedestrians, and more kids on our roads. Road safety should be addressed before small problems become serious ones.
Mapleton is growing, and our kids need safe places to play, connect, and grow. Better parks and recreation programs help families feel connected and keep our small-town community spirit alive. When we invest in our youth, we invest in the future of Mapleton.
Hundreds of homes are expected in Mapleton over the next decade, and much of the land is already zoned for growth. Growth is coming. The real question is how we manage it. As a builder, I understand what responsible development requires: roads, services, infrastructure, and planning that keeps life affordable for families. Let’s shape growth in a way that strengthens our small-town character instead of letting growth happen to us.
